The Blue Water Choir School, a not-for-profit outreach program of Grace Episcopal, Port Huron, is open to all children and adolescents ages 6 and older, regardless of religious affiliation and background. Participants will develop their vocal skills, musical understanding, and knowledge of choral repertoire through our structured choral curriculum designed specifically for young singers. We believe that every participant has the potential to learn and enjoy music, and we strive to create a positive and creative environment where choristers can develop their vocal skills, and gain confidence and self-expression through music.
The Choir School is an extra-curricular, tuition-free opportunity for children and adolescents with an interest in music and singing. No previous musical or voice training is required or expected.
Choristers receive a holistic musical education that includes:
All participants start as Apprentice Choristers and have the opportunity to advance to higher levels after achieving certain goals, such as musical progress, attendance, behavior, and understanding of music theory. There are five levels in the chorister program, Head Chorister, being the highest level.
On a yearly basis, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to an exemplary chorister to be used to advance their musical education (e.g., private instruction, college tuition, etc.). Other awards will be given each year for certain achievements in the program.
Choristers showing a strong commitment to the Choir School will be eligible for free piano lessons.
Choristers will have the opportunity to sing once a month at Grace Episcopal Church, along with periodic performances at venues throughout St. Clair County. There may be travel opportunities to perform outside the state and country in the future.
Music Theory / Sight singing is in session on Wednesdays from 5:00 PM ET to 6:30 PM ET. A typical rehearsal includes the following activities:
Choristers will sing once a month at Grace Episcopal Church's 10:00 AM Eucharist Service, Easter Morning, and Christmas Eve.
Choristers will have opportunities to perform at various venues throughout St. Clair County each year.
Concerts and tours outside of the state and country may be arranged as the proficiency of the choristers grows. These will be scheduled with input from parents / guardians.
